Most driving instructors in Ireland get the bulk of their learners from recommendations, and that’s a good sign: it means your teaching works. But a recommendation only turns into a booking if the learner can find you, trust what they see and get in touch easily. Here are the free, practical ways to make that happen more often.

1. Set up your Google Business Profile properly

When someone searches “driving lessons” plus their town, the map results come from Google Business Profiles. Claim yours, choose a driving-school category, add the areas you cover, your hours, your phone number and a link to your website. If you don’t teach from premises, set it up as a service-area business so your home address isn’t shown. It’s free, and for local searches it matters more than almost anything else. Our guide to Google Business Profile vs a website explains how the two work together.

2. Ask for a review after every pass

The day someone passes their test is the day they’re happiest with you. Send them your Google review link that evening with a short thank-you. Over a year, that adds up to a long list of genuine reviews — the thing new learners and their parents read most closely. Don’t offer anything in return for a review, and never write them yourself: Google doesn’t allow either.

3. Share pass photos (with permission)

A photo of a smiling learner holding their pass cert is the best advert a driving instructor can have. Always ask first, then share it on Facebook and Instagram and add it to your website. A wall of real passes says more than any slogan.

4. Reply quickly — and make it easy to reach you

Learners often message two or three instructors at once and book with whoever answers first. A WhatsApp button on your website and profile, and a quick reply — even “I’m on a lesson, I’ll ring you at 5” — wins a lot of bookings.

5. Be clear about prices and areas

If people have to message you just to find out what a lesson costs or whether you cover their town, some won’t bother. Put your prices, lesson bundles and the areas you cover where people can see them: on your website, your Google profile and your Facebook page.

6. Explain EDT simply

First-time car learner permit holders have to complete 12 Essential Driver Training lessons with an RSA Approved Driving Instructor, and many learners — and parents — aren’t sure how it works. A short, plain-English explanation on your website builds trust and saves you answering the same questions all week.

7. Use your town names naturally

People search for lessons where they live. Mention the towns you cover and the test centres you prepare learners for, in normal sentences, on your website and Google profile. Don’t stuff lists of place names into every page — write it the way you’d say it.

8. Make it easy for past learners to recommend you

Word of mouth is your best channel, so help it along. When someone passes, remind them you’d appreciate them passing your name on to friends and younger siblings. A simple website address that’s easy to share makes those recommendations easier to act on.

9. Have one place that answers everything

Facebook posts get buried and a Google listing only holds so much. A simple website gives learners one place with your lessons, prices, areas, reviews and a big WhatsApp button — and it’s the link you can put everywhere else.
